Marriage records [microform] , 1948-1949.

Marriage records may include bonds, books, certificates, licenses, marriage registers or ministers' returns. Indexes to marriage records may be available. Marriage consents by the parent or guardian of the bride or groom were required if either of them was less than twenty-one years old. The consent was usually filed with the bond and a copy of the license. Marriage certificates signify that the marriage occurred. The certificate was completed by the minister or judge and then given to the marrying couple. Marriage registers or ministers' returns were filed with the county clerk within twelve months after the minister or public official performed the ceremony.

The Circuit Court handles civil matters which involve more than $1,500 as well as capitol offenses and felonies. Between 1802 and 1849 the Court ruled on divorce petitions. Other functions of this court include equity matters such as land title problems, contested probate of wills, appeals from the district court, and appeals from administrative agencies.
